Paneer “Popcorn”

A snack, an interesting appetizer, something tasteful to serve during Happy hour. You will love this Paneer Popcorn!

Ingredients
For the Marinade mix

  • 350 grams paneer (cottage cheese) cut into cubes
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric / haldi
  • 1/2 tsp kashmiri red chilli powder
  • 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp pepper, crushed
  • 1 tsp cumin powder

For the batter

  • 1/4 cup corn flour
  • 1/4 tsp pepper, crushed
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Oil for deep frying
  • 1 cup of breadcrumbs

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl add the cubes of paneer, ginger & garlic paste, turmeric, chilli powder, pepper, cumin powder, corn flour, salt and pepper. Add 1/4 cup water to make a batter. Add more water if required.
  2. Mix everything, making sure that the paneer is coated well with all the spices.
  3. In a separate bowl place the cup of breadcrumbs and take each cube of marinated paneer and roll into the breadcrumbs making sure to coat it on all sides.
  4. Deep fry in batches in hot oil until the paneer turns golden brown and crisp.

Serving suggestion

For a quick cooling dip, blend 1/2 cup yoghurt with 1 tablespoon grated cucumber, handful of chopped coriander, 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
